Here is a crappie that I finished this summer, but just did not have the right drift wood until recently. The fly is also something that I constructed off the top of my head as I also tie flies for fun and of course for fishing!:)
Hi Mark I don't know how you do it, but the colors on the fish is what really strikes me. It looks so real. Painting with contrast and shadows was always an interest when I look at a painting, but how you do this on a three deminsional is really interesting to me? Please tell? Mark you have no idea how popular you are at my house. My husband is a fishing nut!! He is always waiting when I get online to post to my blog and wants to see your updates and carvings. He and my Dad are planning on taking their first kayak trip in the spring. I will have to update you when it comes around. They will be heading from below Wolf Creek Damn in Ky and following the river to Nashville....or so they think :) Its quite a lofty endeavor for beginners. Mayhaps they will find some super cool driftwood for my rock garden!
Honestly, I am not really sure about what to tell you in terms of the construction of the projects. I usually think it up in my head, then I draw it on the wood, cut it out and then I just carve, put a paint coating and then color in with oil pastels. Each carving is different because each one is hand drawn. The colors just kind of come to me I guess. I am glad you like them though:)
I have been fishing since I was 3 when I went ice fishing for the first time. This whole lake thing in Minnesota is so much different than when I used to live on rivers in Wisonsin, but it seems to be coming around to me:) The latest update for kayak fishing is it is OVER for the year. I went out yesterday and caught some fish, but it has rained literally since I awoke this morning and then it is supposed to snow tonight with some accumulations possible. My kayaking is OVER:( until probably late April or early May. I guess there is always ice fishing:) which is not too far off (probably within a month). Please do keep me updated about the kayak trip as I am always interested in hearing from students. I am glad you like the carvings:)
You have awsome talent. I find people with this type of talent to be so interesting. They seem to see the world is such a different perspective. They appreciate the world that we live in and want to preserve it for future generations. I am a big history buff and a preservationist. I love to meet people with wonderful talents like yours.
o.k. I see now how to post a comment on your thread. What about if I just wanted to write something new not in reguards to another post? Also do I have to click on follow atom link?
Wow, what a talent! thats fantastic, the ones you are holding I thought they were fish you caught. Thats a great hobby and relaxation...Melissa
ReplyDeleteHi Melissa,

ReplyDeleteHi Sherri,
ReplyDeleteThank you. I am glad that it comes across that way as I really do have a tremendous appreciation for the environment that I am a part.
